“You can say anything you want about Sonny, but not that he's a bad dad. He loves his children. He'll do anything for those children. Mobster, yeah. Manic depressive, yeah. Crazy and all that, fine. But he's a good father." Maurice Benard.

Sonny to Ric Lansing. "I'd do anything within my power to help a child. You should know that."

"As for me, my children need me no matter what kind of life I lead or what I've done."- Sonny’s prayer.

"My kids are my life. I should probably walk away from them. But I'm not going to do that because I know what it's like to have your father leave you . . . the years it takes to stop blaming yourself and destroying everybody around you. I do what I got to do to protect them, and I conduct my business in a way that keeps them safe."

"I have been to hell, and I'm working my way up and trying to focus on the things that are important in my life, like my boys and Kristina. They deserve the best father I can be." Sonny, after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

"Have my children suffered because of me? Absolutely. It's a living hell watching it happen, but I'll tell you right now, I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world. We do the best we can to protect our children, and we just got to have a little blind faith that they're going to make it through." Sonny, talking to Jason about fatherhood.

"I'm the original paranoid, Dad." Sonny reassuring Robin that it's okay to be overprotective of your kids.

"For a long time, I didn't even know if I wanted children because all I knew was what I learned from Deke, and I didn't want to be that cold, abusive, and angry. Michael showed me how to break the cycle. So I am a better man because of my son."

Carly (to Alexis): “The kids need to be with their dad. They don't care that Sonny's a criminal. They don't care about laws and ethics. They love their father, and they need to be with him. Sonny’s their dad and they love him.”

Dante: “Look, Sonny's a criminal, but he's a good father. He's great to his kids.”

Alexis (to Michael, Morgan, Kristina, and Molly). You know what? This is all a little too much for everybody, I think, to deal with. I really don't know what to say, and I certainly can't offer any more advice about Sonny. What I will tell you is that it's okay to love Sonny and hate what he does. He's done terrible things. But no matter what, he loves you, and there isn't anybody in this room that he wouldn't give up his life for."

"I'm not leaving my kids." Sonny, when facing prison or leaving the country.

"Well, Your Honor, I would be a flight risk if my life was about money and buying things, but it's not. My kids mean everything to me, and I try to be a good father, and I'll continue to try, because my kids are what make my life worth living. I would never leave them. I helped raise 2 of my boys, and I'm very proud of them. And I got a daughter who I wish I had spent more time in her life, but I think that's gonna change. She's a beautiful little girl, smart, and her mother's done a great job at raising her. I wanna spend time with all my children, and that includes Officer Falconeri, who I just recently found out that he's my son. I don't want to run away. I just wanna clear my name so I can spend time with my family." Sonny, explaining to the judge why he should be free on bail.

Sonny: "I'm never going to stop loving my children, and whether you like it or not, that includes you." Sonny, to Dante.

Brenda: "You're their father. These are your kids. They need you. And you need to go after them always. You need to go back for them. I don't care what you've done to them. You need to go after them, and you need to never give up on them." Brenda, telling Sonny to go back to Port Charles for his kids.

Sonny: "My kids need to know that I'm a better man than they know me to be and that better part of me got lost somewhere along the line. I need to put it back. Kristina needs to stop believing that I'm an angry monster. Dante needs to think better of me, and Michael and Morgan, they need to be proud of their Dad." Sonny, telling Jason why he returned to Port Charles.

Diane: "Sonny? He loves his children, worships them. He'd do anything in the world for his children."

Sonny: "I should have been dead many times, and I wonder why I'm not. The one thing I do know is that you kids are the reason that keeps me going. You teach me how to be a better father." Sonny to Michael.

"Sonny's love of his life would have to be his children. Anytime I play scenes about or with my kids, that's where the deep of his heart is." Maurice Benard, (ABC Chat).

"You kids are my heart, and a man cannot be separated from his own heart. Do you understand?" Sonny, to Kristina.

"You're a good father, Sonny." Kate, to Sonny.

"There's nothing I love more than my children. I always wanted to raise my kids letting them know that they're loved and they're cared for, you know. I wanted to give them a life that I never had." Sonny to Kate, when talking about growing up with Deke.

"I always thought Sonny was a mobster first and my father second but it turns out it’s actually the other way around.” Dante, after Sonny takes a bullet meant for him.

TVSource: How would describe Sonny's relationship with his children?
Benard:
With Michael I think that's his heart, his sweet kid. With Kristina, he longs for her love, which he can't get. A lot of it is his fault. Morgan is one that has always stuck by him, even though they don't see each other much anymore, Morgan has stuck by him the most which is sweet. Dante is a lot like Kristina where he longs for his love and every time I think they're getting close, something happens. I love working with all of them. 8/12.
